About the Book

Their Stories
Live On.

An Australian soldier’s long road home, to the family who never stopped waiting.

Rather than telling a war story from the battlefield, Back to You looks at what happens after, the road home, the people waiting, and the memories passed from one generation to the next.

Cennet Kapkaç’s illustrations draw on golden fields, poppies, farmhouse details, Australian light and the visual language of remembrance.

The Picture Book

A journey told through image, song and memory.

Back to You is being created for families, young readers, schools and anyone who has ever stood quietly at dawn and thought about the people who came before us.

The book is moving toward release through Amazon and IngramSpark, with direct signed copies planned later.

At the heart of the story

Three Ideas
Carried Through the Story.

Respect

For those who served, and for the courage carried long after service ended.

Legacy

For the memories, stories and lessons passed from one generation to the next.

Homecoming

For the road back to family, community and the ordinary life worth returning to.

The Companion Song

Before it was a book, it was a song.

Written and performed by Adam Brice, Back to You explores the same themes of remembrance, sacrifice and homecoming through music.

About the Author

Why I Wrote
Back to You.

Conversations with Charles Edwards, a World War II veteran who spent many years visiting schools to share his experiences, gave me a glimpse into what service, sacrifice and homecoming truly meant. His stories inspired me to honour not one soldier’s journey, but the shared experiences of a generation, and the families whose lives were forever changed by war.

As an educator, I wanted to create a story that young people, families and classrooms could return to for generations to come. Back to You is a tribute to the thousands of Australians who served, those who waited for them to return, and the memories that continue to be passed from one generation to the next.

For Schools

Curriculum resources are coming.

Teacher guides, discussion prompts and cross-curricular learning activities are being developed to help students explore remembrance, Australian history, family stories and the passing of memory from one generation to the next.
